Flat Trackers #3

A nice start to this series, following Captain Bertie's win in the Spring Cup yesterday at odds of 7/1. He may be well-enough treated to win again, but he's done his main job now and can be deleted from the list.

Hamoody also ran the other day at Ripon and was unsighted on the soft ground, drifting from 10s to 14s. This could work in our favour as our interest in him is restricted to any engagements he takes up at Goodwood.

Newmarket 18/04/12
3yo Mdn 7fNINE REALMS (2nd) ran on well when meeting the rising ground, and could be interesting over a little further. He's by Green Desert but there's a good bit of stamina on the dam side.

3yo Mdn 10f: 20/1 shot SURAJ made a fairly noteworthy introduction to the racecourse.  Finishing 5th under an educational Spencer ride, he should come on.

Newmarket 19/04/12
Wood Ditton 8f: nothing very subtle about the way MAWASEM was schooled on the racecourse here (we don't see many of Sir Michael's win at 25/1). Finishing 9th, he was never put in the race but was noted travelling kindly throughout.

Newbury 20/04/12
3yo 0-95 7f: running from just out the handicap, TARTIFLETTE (78) should just about have shaded this, and may be a tricky ride. Having said that, she could be quite well treated if the handicapper goes easy on her for this effort, and twice now she's shown useful form on an easy surface.

3yo Mdn (f) 10f: in what looked the better of the two divisions of this fillies' maiden, DEVINE GUEST ran very smoothly on her first visit to the races, so it's hardly surprising she was chipped into 33s from 50s. The dam is about stamina but the sire, Holy Roman Emperor, was speedy enough and you wouldn't be put off if they went back to 8f with this filly. You might be put off by the trainer, however, who is Mick Channon.

  1. Funnily enough, I saw that Mawasam race. Couldn't agree more. He's made it to my list of 20 flat horses to follow this Summer. Congrats on the Captain Bertie win.
