Sandown was a right old wash-out, so on to Guineas weekend:
Palace House: a decent effort from the 3 year old CALEDONIA LADY, whose second in a listed event first time out this season now looks better following Beyond Desire's win at Longchamp today. Maybe at her best on easy ground. On this evidence 6f may not be beyond her either.
In the 6f sprint hcap for 3 year olds, DEMOCRETES (87) was well backed from 14s into 8s. Wasn't especially unlucky for a hold up horse but had to plot a ziggy path. Shaped as if an extra furlong wouldn't go amiss.
In the equivalent race for older horses, PARISIAN PYRAMID (91) looks back down to a winning mark. 3 wins out of 44 isn't a great look, but he's done well the last twice on testing ground (his winning form is on quicker). He's another one that's shown good form at Goodwood in the past, so he'll be especially interesting if "Mr Punch" Kevin Ryan lines him up there.
The 1000 Guineas was a funny race, but Mashoora ran a shocker whichever way you tilt it. I'll keep her on the list for now, though. More encouragingly, Mawasem & Nine Realms (1st & 2nd) confirmed the promise of their reappearances, and King Of Jazz (3rd) ran a good race in the Victoria Cup. The ground may have blunted his ability to get home, but I'd still like to see him stepped back to 6f.
